Kiln casting is a technique that I like for its eclectic results.
First , an 'original' is created, out of clay, rubber, or wax.
The original is then placed in a box, then filled with a plaster
mix ( casting material ).   When dry, the original is removed
from the casting,  and the casting is removed from the box,
This is the mold, which has a void in the form of the
original.

The 'void' is filled with pieces of glass, then fired in the kiln,
to take the shape of the original.

" Best Stuff "

No matter how hard we try, we can't
come up with better 'stuff' than what
is found in nature.  These are
castings of cactus flowers - pretty
touchy to do.  The hardest part was
getting the flower to hold still for so
the place.   Pets, babies, and plant life;
they just don't co-operate when you
want them too !!
These unfortunate souls are
unclaimed.   They are awaiting
next of kin to identify them and
to provide a final resting place

Rare Fossil Find Discovered
Parking Lot Work Crew Uncovers Rare Mercedes Benz Fossil
A fossilized Mercedes, one
of the first to have ever
"oozed up" from the
primordial rock an estimated
2 million years ago, was
discovered last week behind
an art gallery in Philomath,
Oregon.

Scientists believe just the
right combination of rock and
metal under just the right
conditions formed the early
Mercedes.
More Mercedes fossils have
since been recovered in the
same dig area.   Note the
variation of color in the early
species.

Poking fun at evolution aside...

I love the excavated car fossil as a glass cast
piece!   The roughness  of the finished work
enhances its portrayal of an ancient, beat up,
excavated old fossil.
These car 'fossil' paperweights have a nice
"glow" to them as the light catches the
contrasting car glass color which then
projects throughout the piece.
